Keeping those windows tight!

A gas that leaves a footprint? What’s that all about and what has it got to do with adhesives? Well, results from the German Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) pilot project have, for the first time, revealed how much in the way of greenhouse gas emissions is connected to the manufacture of joint sealants for window frames and laminating adhesives – and what percentage of emissions can be cut through their usage. The ‘Carbon Footprint’ is a measure of all the greenhouse gas emissions that occur during the lifecycle of a product.

Sustainable labeling solutions for the beverage industry

Within the beverage sector, drinktec is regarded as a premier forum for innovations with global reach. This world-leading trade show, to be held at Munich’s Neue Messe site between September 14 and 19, will be showcasing 1,500 exhibitors from some 70 countries and is expected to attract around 70,000 visitors from more than 160 countries. Henkel will also be around in Munich, presenting a range of sustainable solutions for the beverage industry.

Young Scientists Meet Nobel Prize-Winners

As scientific forums, the Nobel Prize-Winner Conferences held in Lindau are quite unique. Every year since 1951, young researchers from different countries have been meeting with Nobel Prize-winners at this town on Lake Constance. From June 28 to July 3, a total of 580 students from 67 countries are discussing aspects of sustainable chemistry with 23 Nobel Prize-winners. This year for the first time, Henkel facilitated the participation of 60 chemistry students from 20 countries.

Responsibility all along the line

Sustainability is more than environmental protection and social engagement. At Henkel, sustainable development starts with the selection of the raw materials for its branded products, involves manufacturing, distribution and communication, and takes the use phase and disposal into account as well, thus encompassing the entire value chain. Henkel recognized for ecological commitment

For more than 133 years, Henkel has been combining leading brand performance with responsibility toward people and the environment. In Cologne on May 19, Henkel received the 2009 Plus X Award – conferred as part of a major European technology competition – for its standing as an “Ecologically Committed Company”. Also recognized were the company’s new liquid laundry detergents marketed under the Terra Activ brand.

Henkel again recognized

Henkel has once again received public recognition as a socially responsible company: for the second time running, the Ethisphere Institute and Forbes Magazine, both of the USA, have included Henkel in their list of the “World’s Most Ethical Companies”. Only two German companies have made it to this list. Among the selection criteria are corporate social responsibility, management style and innovative strength.

U.S. retail giant Wal-Mart has selected Henkel to receive the “Wal-Mart Sustainability Award". Henkel was recognized as the one company demonstrating the most comprehensive approach to sustainability and making a substantial contribution to Wal-Mart’s sustainability strategy.
